About Love INC Heartland
Love INC – Heartland where the INC stands for In the Name of Christ. Our local Love
INC – Heartland is an affiliate of Love INC, an international organization. Love INC
started in Holland, Michigan in 1977. It is now a national movement with over 140
affiliates in the US and 5 in Kenya. Our local Love INC began forming in 2003. A group
of concerned area residents were looking for a better way to serve our neighbors in
need. They formed Love INC – Heartland as an individual community non-profit, with
the cooperation and support of six local churches.
Love INC - Heartland office annually serves over a thousand requests for help, by
phone or email. Annually several thousand hours from hundreds of volunteers are
generously given to serving needs in our community. Many people receive a warm coat,
a handmade blanket, and other needed items. Hearts and lives are warmed in our
community everyday through the volunteers and donors at Love INC - Heartland.
Love INC Heartland is a neighbor helping neighbor organization. It is a shared ministry
of over thirty local churches representing more than twelve denominations. Together our
churches can accomplish more, than they can individually. Each day many people call
for help. Every caller is comforted with unconditional love and prayed with. We direct
people to agencies that can meet their needs. Love INC’s office is a clearing house
directing people to help. Many times there is not an organization in place to help for
certain needs, which is when our church volunteers step in to help.
It is difficult for churches to know how to respond when people come to them seeking
help. Love INC works with the neighbor in need and investigates to validate that the
need is true. As stewards of the many gifts of time, talent and goods that are donated
from our generous community we are careful to insure that the needs are valid before
we help with our resources. The neighbor in need is then connected with the many
ministries our local churches have created to help. We have furniture, clothing, bedding,
back to school supplies, household items, holiday food and gifts, and numerous other
ministries in place. Our volunteers from the local churches lend a hand to neighbors that
could use a hand up.
Our proven programs help people move beyond their struggles towards self-sufficiency.
We don’t just give a person a fish, we don’t just teach people how to fish, and instead
we help people understand he has the capability of being an excellent fisherman.
People enrolled in our Fresh Start program gain skills to better equip them. Participants
have been able to pay down debt, increase their wages, restore marriages, and see
their children do better in school. The program helps people flourish and gain traction to
move towards their goals.
Love INC is not an emergency assistance agency, and we do not give away cash.
Rather we are designed to mobilize the church to help meet needs of neighbors.
Volunteers in the churches receive a lot in return. Volunteers report how moved they
were to give a child his first bed. Neighbors tell us they are overwhelmed by the love
and care that they received through our volunteers. Our community is transforming
through reaching out to each other. We are ready and willing to help anyone that we
can, there are no special requirements. We come in the name of Christ, and serve
absolutely anyone just as He would.
We serve residents of: Cokato, Corcoran, Dassel, Delano, Greenfield, Howard Lake,
Independence, Loretto, Mayer, Maple Plain, Montrose, Rockford, Watertown, Winsted,
