Love INC-Heartland (Love In the Name of Christ) kicks off its annual Sleep Out fund raiser with a pancake breakfast at the Delano Applebee's on Saturday, Oct. 20. Serving is from 8 to 10 a.m. with $5 tickets available at the door. All proceedes go to help families in our local community who are in need.
During the Oct. 20-Nov. 21 Sleep Out, youth groups, families, business representatives and individuals will sleep from one to 31 nights in tents outside. Why tents? Sleeping in a tent represents the discomfort and loneliness many feel every day. Volunteers sleep out in tents to raise awareness for the many families and children in our community who go to sleep in the cold, many without beds, some are with out homes.
The money raised from 2006 Sleep Out contributions and pledges served over 2000 adults and children in Wright, Northern Carver and Western Hennepin County communities. Love INC-Heartland's 2008 goal is $40,000 during the one-month fund raiser.
Many churches, businesses and neighborhoods will have tents and Sleep Out signs. Any of these participants will gratefully accept your pledge, or mail a contribution to Love INC-Heartland at P.O. Box 143, Delano, MN 55328. You may drop your donations off at Delano Priniting, again Steve Johnson (owner) and his son Patrick will sleep out the entire time to help our neighbors in need.
