BRING-A-BAG BACK

Do your church members have difficulty remembering what goods are needed for special ministries? The "Bring-A-Bag Back" offering helps refresh their memories and boosts donations dramatically.

Attach labels with specific needs to some brown paper bags (sometimes grocery stores will donate these bags). Distribute the labeled bags at the worship service, and print right on the bag the date to return the items. Instruct the church or group members to return the filled bags by the prescribed date and watch the donations roll in. The following are suggested items for the labels.

EXAMPLE: NAPKINS, PAPER TOWELS, TOILET PAPER, TISSUE, BAR SOAP, LAUNDRY DETERGENT, DISH SOAP, CLEANSER, AND OTHER PAPER GOODS/CLEANING SUPPLIES.

EXAMPLE: YOUR GROUP COULD DECIDE TO CREATE A CLEANING PRODUCTS BAG. FILL A BOX OR BAG FULL OF DIFFERENT CLEANING SUPPLIES, SPONGES, PAPER TOWELS, AND THE LIKE.

EXAMPLE: YOUR GROUP COULD CHOOSE TO CREATE BAKING BAGS. FILL A BOX OR A BAG FULL OF BAKING SUPPLIES LIKE FLOUR, SUGAR, BAKING SODA, BAKING POWDER, RECIPE, ETC.

Please call the LOVE INC - Heartland office when your drive has ended for instructions for the best place to deliver your collected items.

COAT, JACKET, SNOW PANTS, AND BOOT DRIVES

Beginning in the early fall, the collection of winter apparel is a great benefit to dozens, if not hundreds, of needy individuals. Those who sponsor this type of drive often find that many are very happy to have a good place to donate their outgrown and/or excess winter apparel. Sizes needed include everything from 3 Toddler through Adult Large and Extra Large. The following warm items are needed.

  • Coats, jackets, hooded sweatshirts, snow pants, boots, and other winter apparel.
  • Hats, scarves, and mittens can also be collected along with the coats and boots, or a separate drive can be done.  See the "Hat, Scarf, and Mitten Drive" information in the projects list online.
  • New and gently used items are requested. Please clean and repair used items.

Please call the LOVE INC – Heartland office when your drive has ended for instructions as to the best place to deliver your collected items.

IDEA! -- SOME GROUPS/ENTIRE CHURCHES HAVE HAD GREAT SUCCESS WITH THE "COAT, JACKET, SNOW PANTS, AND BOOT DRIVE" BY PLACING ONE, TWO, OR THREE VERY LARGE BOXES IN A VISIBLE PLACE IN THEIR CHURCH. EVERYONE STRIVES TO FILL THOSE BOXES TO THE BRIM AND MORE. THE BOXES SERVE AS A HELPFUL VISUAL REMINDER AS WELL.

The furniture ministry is a ministry of Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown.  The most widely needed items are beds and mattresses.  Consider gathering donations of new twin bed mattresses as a project.

FURNITURE MINISTRY

This ministry of LOVE INC- Heartland is constantly increasing in size. We have a tremendous need for furniture that is in good condition - couches, chairs, tables, lamps, beds (Twin and Double), dressers, etc. Please call our office at any time if you have questions about what can or can not be donated. Our Furniture ministry will schedule a time that they can come and pick-up the items.

FURNITURE DELIVERY HELPERS

LOVE INC - Heartland  has a furniture ministry that is forever growing. Our volunteer’s work all week long picking up and delivering items, but sometimes they get behind on their deliveries. We are in need of a few individuals who have pickup trucks and would be available on an occasional day to help deliver items to families in need.

Please call the LOVE INC - Heartland office if you could help out from time to time. We would be happy to set up a schedule with you.

HAT, SCARF, AND MITTEN DRIVES

Beginning in the early fall, the collection of winter apparel is a great benefit to hundreds of needy individuals.

  • Warm hats, mittens, gloves, and scarves.
  • These items are best if they are new and can either be purchased or handmade.
  • Coats, jackets, snow pants, and boots can also be collected along with the hats, scarves, and mittens, or a separate drive can be done. Review the previous "Coat, Jacket, Snow Pants, and Boot Drive" information.

Please call the LOVE INC - Heartland office when your drive has ended for instructions for the best place to deliver your collected items.

NOTE: LOVE INC – HEARTLAND COLLECTS YARN YEAR AROUND FROM MANY DONORS. THE YARN IS SHARED WITH MANY DIFFERENT GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALS WHO LIKE TO KEEP THEIR HANDS BUSY KNITTING AND CROCHETING. HUNDREDS OF HATS, MITTENS, SCARVES, AND OTHER ITEMS ARE SUPPLIED IN THIS WAY.

IDEA! -- CHURCH COULD EVEN DO A DRIVE FOR YARN. BRING THE RESULTS OF THE DRIVE TO THE LOVE INC – HEARTLAND OFFICE AND THEN LOVE WOULD PASS THE YARN ON TO THE KNITTERS AND CROCHETERS.

In the first year of operation the Lyndale Lutheran Lullaby ministry helped over 60 babies, with diapers, cribs and baby supplies.  Join in showing the Love of Christ to our precious babies.

The Love INC – Heartland Lullaby Ministry welcomes the following  infant items:

  • Baby Blankets
  • Back pack carriers
  • Bottles
  • Bouncy chairs
  • Breast feeding pillows
  • Breast Pumps
  • Children’s Books
  • Crib Sheets
  • Cribs
  • Diapers
  • Diaper Bags
  • Front pack Carriers
  • Exer-saucers
  • High Chairs
  • Pack ‘n Plays
  • Sling type carriers
  • Wipes

DUSTING FOR DIAPERS PROJECT

Our babies need diapers, mom’s are unable to use “food stamp” money to purchase diapers, it is only for food.  An idea for your group may be to go out and do household projects and ask for diapers as payment.  Diapers can then be donated to the Lullaby ministry for home delivery.  (Keep in mind the diapers that are needed the most are size 4, 5 & 6).  Diaper collections are always welcome.

ADOPT-A-CRIB PROJECT

It is often difficult to find useable cribs for new mothers. In response to this need, LOVE In the Name of Christ is currently coordinating a new program called Adopt-A-Crib. We will be asking churches and other interested groups to purchase a complete crib (approximately $125) and donate it to LOVE INC. These cribs would then be given to new mothers and their newborn.

Please call the LOVE – INC office, we will provide you with more details.

ONCE-A-MONTH COLLECTION PROJECT

This project would be wonderful for schools or youth groups, but everyone is welcome to give it their best. It is extremely easy and you will be amazed by the results.
Any time during the year your group can brainstorm about things they would like to donate to needy families. Once eight to twelve ideas have been selected, you can decide which items you would like to collect during each month of the school year.

EXAMPLE:

OCTOBER COULD BE BLANKET COLLECTION MONTH WHERE THE STUDENTS BRING IN AS MANY WARM BLANKETS THAT THEY CAN FIND.
APRIL COULD BE EASTER BASKET MONTH WHERE THEY OFFER TO ADOPT A FAMILY IN THEIR LOCAL CHURCH.
FEBRUARY COULD BE CANDY HEART AND VALENTINE MONTH WHERE THE GROUP GIVES THEIR COLLECTIONS TO A GROUP OF CHILDREN THAT ARE IN THE HOSPITAL DURING THE HOLIDAY.
THE LIST GOES ON AND THE IDEAS ARE ENDLESS.

Once you've completed your collections, please contact the LOVE INC – Heartland office for further instructions.

PENNY DRIVE

It is amazing to witness how quickly money adds up. School children often choose to do the "Penny Drive". They collect money they find in their couches or that they get from their allowance and they bring it in to the classroom. Often there is a milk jug in each classroom where the kids put their money and they watch each day as the amount of coinage grows.

This money can be donated directly to LOVE INC – Heartland  or it can be used to purchase other items that the kids wish to donate. This is also a wonderful project for businesses to participate in.

When the project is completed, it is recommended that the money be counted before the funds are turned over to the LOVE INC - Heartland office for a specific need

Our annual “Back to School Bash” in August  is hosted by Delano Assembly of God.  Families in need enjoy a nice lunch, free school supplies and an afternoon of fun, games and even face painting.  We held our first one in August of 2008 – what a day of joy filled abundance!

SCHOOL SUPPLIES PROJECT

This project is usually done during the summer months of June, July, and August. When children are preparing for their return to school, certain supplies are needed. These supplies are put together in kits based on the needs of the child and then distributed to them. In addition, new clothing items for school are also provided.
Each family is screened to ensure that the need is legitimate before they are given these back to school kits. These kits include:

  • Pencil boxes
  • notebooks
  • notebook paper
  • pens
  • pencils
  • crayons
  • colored pencils
  • glue/glue sticks
  • scissors
  • erasers
  • markers
  • book bags or backpacks.

Please contact the LOVE INC – Heartland  office when you've concluded your "School Supplies Project" collection. The items you've collected will be sorted and then distributed in packets by church volunteers.

THANKSGIVING BASKETS PROJECT

Approximately four to six weeks prior to Thanksgiving, the LOVE INC - Heartland office screens needy families in our communities and coordinates food baskets for them. The name and the size of the family are supplied along with suggestions for food items that they need. Some groups supply the food and also choose to supply a certain recipe(s) along with all the ingredients for the recipe(s) as a personal touch for the holiday meal.

A Church coordinator will be asked to make contact with the family well in advance of your delivery so the family knows that they will receive a "Thanksgiving Basket". At an appropriate time before the holiday, your group, never just an individual, will deliver the "Thanksgiving Basket" and all the trimmings.  Your church may choose to have a pick up day at the church for the families to receive their baskets.

  • Individuals, businesses, churches, schools, and families that are willing to provide food items, recipes, and personal contact are needed.
  • Other grocery items, besides those for the holiday meal, may also be supplied.
  • It is important to keep in mind the freshness of the items, especially meat. Sometimes written instructions for the cooking of the meat are helpful. A large aluminum pan in which to roast the meat is also recommended.
  • Providing a Bible, Bible storybook, information about your church, or an invitation to a special church service is encouraged.

If you have any questions or you would like to become involved in this program, please contact the LOVE INC - Heartland office.

Delano Assembly of God annually hosts our “Free Toy Store”, it is a magnificent ministry and volunteers love to help on that grace filled project.

TOY STORE COLLECTION PROJECT

Each year in December the store is open for a day.  Families in need who have received vouchers from Love INC – Heartland may come in and choose toys for their own children.  This is especially meaningful to these parents because they are able to personally choose something for their child other than randomly receiving from our Adopt-A-Family program. All toys need to be new. We particularly need teen gifts, that is the area we are always lacking in.

  • Early Childhood: Duplo blocks, Little Tikes toys®, Fisher Price toys®, baby dolls, doll furniture, strollers, carts, clothes, play kitchen toys, alphabet/number toys and blocks, crib activity sets, waffle blocks, toddler books, plastic trucks, games, stuffed animals, and other age appropriate materials.
  • Elementary Ages: Craft/art kits, art books, markers, paints, art paper, pencils, board games, Etch-a-Sketch®, Magna Doodle®, puzzles, remote control cars, model kits, beginner Bible, Bible story books, sports equipment, Lego® sets, Nerf® toys, dolls, doll clothes, doll house, plastic sleds or sledding tubes, and other age appropriate materials.
  • Teenager: Walkman®, clock radios, watches, perfume/cologne, back packs, purses/wallets, cameras, teen bible, board games, calculators, sports equipment, air pumps and needles, hair barrettes and scrunchies, make-up, nail polish, lotions, and other age appropriate materials.

IDEA! -- YOUR CHURCH COULD CONSTRUCT A LARGE PAPER TURKEY WITH DOZENS OF TAIL FEATHERS. THESE TAIL FEATHERS WOULD HAVE ITEMS THAT COULD BE PURCHASED WRITTEN ON THEM. AN INDIVIDUAL COULD PICK A TAIL FEATHER, PURCHASE THAT ITEM, AND THEN BRING IT BACK TO THE CHURCH WITHIN A CERTAIN TIME FRAME.
IDEA! -- SOME GROUPS CHOOSE TO DO THEIR GIFT CLOSET DRIVE BY PUTTING UP A CHRISTMAS TREE AND HANGING PAPER ORNAMENTS ON THE TREE. EACH ORNAMENT HAS DIFFERENT GIFT ITEMS LISTED ON THEM. EACH PERSON PICKS AN ORNAMENT AND PURCHASES THE GIFT LISTED ON IT. THEY THEN BRING THE GIFT TO THE CHURCH WITHIN A SPECIFIC TIME FRAME.

Please contact the LOVE INC – Heartland  office when your "Gift Drive" is completed and you will be advised as to the best place to deliver your collected items.
